If you post to X through IndieViral, you will see a counter of X posts with links. X is the only network with a counter like that, and this post explains why.
X is the exception
Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads, Discord, YouTube and the rest let tools like IndieViral publish freely. X works differently: since it moved its API to pay-per-use pricing, it applies a very high operating cost to every post published through it, and considerably more to posts that contain a link. Replies count as posts too, so a link in a first comment is treated the same as a link in the post itself.
Offering unlimited X posting would mean raising prices for everyone, including people who rarely post to X. Some schedulers have dropped X altogether for this reason. We would rather keep it, keep our prices stable, and put some fair-use guardrails on X instead.
What each plan includes
- Indie: 30 X posts with links a month.
- Pro: 75 X posts with links a month.
The count covers all your X accounts together, and replies and first comments count. Posts without links have a fair-use limit (300 a month on Indie, 600 on Pro) that normal use never comes close to; it exists only to stop runaway automation. We only show it to you when you are near the end of it.
The counter resets on the first day of each month. You can see it in Social Connections, and the post editor tells you how many you have left before you publish, counting the posts you already have scheduled.
Need more?
You can buy packs of 50 extra X posts with links for $10, on any plan. Pack posts are used only after your monthly ones run out, and they never expire.
A tip while we are at it
X says it no longer penalizes posts with links. Even so, posts led by a link tend to get fewer likes and replies than posts led by your own words, images or video: in Buffer’s data for 2025, link posts had the lowest engagement rate of any post type on X. So when you post a trailer or a devlog, open with the thing itself and let the link come second.
